Long Island City
Long Island was my home from 2006-2014 and it was here where I developed my painting from plein air direct observations to a more studio-based practice where I could develop larger and more complicated compositions that were inspired, but not necessarily governed, by my motif. The elevated tracks and bridge structures of Queens plaza also provided an ideal subject matter for ideas I had about more dynamic, abstract compositions that were still rooted in realism. At this time I also was learning more about the Hudson River School painters and their techniques and using that sensitivity to light and atmosphere in my cityscapes.
