Self Portrait with Queensboro Bridge, 2011

I am a New Haven, CT-based artist, designer, and teacher.
I grew up in Libertyville, IL and came to New York City in 2001 after completing my BFA at Indiana University. Once in New York I dove into the art scene there, showing in group shows in Manhattan and studying privately with Andy Reiss and at the Art Students League.
I had my first solo show A Brooklyn Year, at Park Slope Gallery in 2006. It was a show of paintings, drawings, and prints of Brooklyn cityscapes. The show was a success and a second show at Park Slope Gallery followed in October of 2009. This show, Moments in Time: Queens to Coney Island, featured cityscapes of the beach at Coney Island and industrial scenes in Long Island City along with other subjects.

New York was and continues to be a continual source of inspiration for my work. The magnetism of the city that first brought me there continues to enthrall me. The architecture, pace, opportunity, and exciting and confounding mix of peoples here continues to teach me new lessons about how to see our world and society

I started teaching drawing and the literature of art at the National Academy School in 2011. I have taught there continuously since that time. My current classes are “Anatomy for Artists” and “Drawing Spaces” (a class on spacial illusion and perspective in drawing, along with other space-related topics). I have also taught figure drawing at the Art Students League and at other art programs in NYC.

In late 2014 I moved to Connecticut with my family. I now have a studio in Erector Square.
